"Some ambassadors, considering what they deserve, fared really well," Velimir Ilic says. This was the infrastructure minister and New Serbia leader's reaction Friday to the riots in the capital last night, that saw ransacking of one and burning of another embassy. Ilic: Ambassadors fared well, considering Ilic was speaking in a rally in his native Cacak, central Serbia, when he said the government will make sure that each Serb family in Kosovo is provided with all it needs for a decent life. "They must stay there because that is Serbia, and it will always remain Serbia. All those who wish to snatch Kosovo and Metohija from us must know that. Serbia will not rest until Kosovo is back under its constitutional order," he said. Ilic described yesterday's huge Kosovo rally in Belgrade as an eloquent message that Serbia will not give Kosovo and Metohija away, adding that, "unfortunately, this was also a chance for all those who would easily let the Serbian province slip to identify themselves". "It's those who are hiding like mice, whose who set fires and looted in Belgrade. While the honest and good people of various political persuasions walked in one column, they did not even dare to attend this magnificent display of Serbian unity," he added, apparently in reference to President Boris Tadic, who was on a visit to Romania yesterday. "We are not the vandals here, like some individuals and some media would like us portrayed. It is up to the state institutions to find out what really happened and arrest those who brought shame on Serbia. We will continue to protest peacefully, united, and with dignity." "Kosovo is ours and we will not let anyone else have it," Ilic also told the gathering, adding, "and if need be, one million people will go to Pristina to hold a rally there." As for the attacks on embassies in Belgrade last night, the minister said: "Some ambassadors, considering what they deserve, fared really well." "Americans and that Solana of theirs, the one who bombed even our Cacak, must know what we will not rest until Kosovo and Metohija is back in the fold of Serbia's constitutional order," he concluded. One of his party officials, Dubravka Filipovski, told Beta today that she was "not sure what a dignified reaction to a snatching of a part of our territory ought to look like". As for Ilic's statement before the rally, that "breaking windows in democracy", Filipovski said he was being "realistic". "What were we supposed to do, send out a message that no one is upset and that in ten days everything will blow over? I am not in any way condoning the violence but people took it to the streets with a feeling of empathy and national humiliation. This is a consequence of a cause, and the cause is force used against legality," Filipovski said.
