DSS lambast Vojvodina law
3 November 2009 | 19:42 | Source: Tanjug
BELGRADE -- Opposition DSS official Miloš Aligrudić says the draft law on Vojvodina's provincial powers is "an unconstitutional and separatist act".

“It was wrong to first adopt the Vojvodina statute and to have the Serbian government subsequently harmonize state bills with what is written in the statute, because according to the hierarchy of regulations the statute is below the republic laws,” Aligrudić told reporters in parliament in Belgrade on Tuesday.

He was referring to the fact the Vojvodina assembly had adopted the statute.

MPs are yet to debate it in the Serbian parliament.

The DSS parliamentary group chief also said that "all items are disputable", starting from the way organs would be formed to the jurisdiction in foreign policy and treatment of ethnic minorities.

Aligrudić said that "it had to be done differently, had the Constitution of Serbia been observed", and that laws on financing, transfer of jurisdiction and a number of other bills "were supposed to be adopted first, after which the Vojvodina assembly should adopt a draft statute in keeping with the republic regulations".
