Jamaican basketball player runs over woman in Belgrade

BELGRADE -- Jamaican basketball player Kimani Ffriend hit a 29-year-old woman with his car in downtown Belgrade last night, killing her instantly, daily Blic writes.

According to the daily, the basketball player was driving under the influence and he had 0.98 permils of alcohol in his blood.

29-year-old Nevena Dragutinović was with her twin sister when she was killed and her sister was taken to the Emergency Center in the state of shock.

The accident happened around 4:20 CET. Ffriend told the police that he had tried to avoid a taxi that was in the right lane, that he had therefore swerved into the left lane and hit the victim.

He was remanded in custody for 48 hours.

Ffriend left Valjevo-based Metalac basketball club on Friday as he was supposed to transfer to Spanish Valladolid. Before Serbia, the Jamaican played in Turkey, Italy, Venezuela, Korea, Iran and Spain.
