BELGRADE Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica has stated that his party has thwarted a “disastrous policy” of the Democratic Party (DS). “It was an important goal for us to remove the DS’ disastrous policy that the EU has no alternative which threatened to cause Serbia serious and long-term damage,” he told daily Danas. "We thwarted Democrats' disastrous policy" The DSS today marks the 20th anniversary since founding with a session of its main board. Kostunica added that the success of his party was also the agreement with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) that the Constitution would not be changed without the consent of the DSS. According to the former Yugoslav president and Serbian prime minister, the key reason the DSS was not asked to take part in the talks on the forming of the new government is the fact that it advocates Serbia’s political and military neutrality. When asked whether it was possible to reach a political consensus on Kosovo, that the new Serbian president insists on, the DSS leader said that the DS had destroyed national unity when it came to Kosovo in 2008 and that it had established a new policy that the EU had no alternative, adding that it would take a lot of time and effort to reestablish the unity. Kostunica noted that the DSS had a safe and great future and that it was a party with 20 years of experience in state-building policy, that it faced numerous challenges and that it would always and at any cost stand by its people.
