With a series of events starting Wednesday and continuing through May 20, Serbia will celebrate Europe Day, it as has been announced. This marks May 9, 1950, the day then-French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community - considered the predecessor of the modern-day European Union. Europe Day being marked in Serbia Under the slogan "Europe Open," more than 25 cultural and sports events will be held in five cities in Serbia - Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica, Nis, Loznica and Novi Sad. On Wednesday, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert will attend the opening of a school Olympics in Sremska Mitrovica, inspired by the Olympic Games that will take place in London this summer. A festival of contemporary European film will take place at Dom Omladine in Belgrade from May 13 to 19, in cooperation with the cultural centers and embassies of EU member countries, along with a photography exhibit that will stay open for several weeks. The traditional conference on economic issues and challenges will be especially relevant this year in light of the crisis faced by the EU. Europe Day being marked in Serbia

Under the slogan "Europe Open," more than 25 cultural and sports events will be held in five cities in Serbia - Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica, Niš, Loznica and Novi Sad.
