Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has stated that the government has no secret plan for Kosovo. He noted, however, that the latest decisions of the European Council, which postponed the granting of the EU candidate status to Serbia for February, were wrong and lead to great and far-reaching divisions in the Balkans. Minister: European Council's decision wrong “After the decision of the European Council, it is normal to expect that the Balkans will be divided by a C-section, the very same line that once divided the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and which was later redrawn by Stalin and Winston Churchill,” Dacic stated in the southern Serbian town of Vranje on Sunday evening. He said he was not hiding anything when it came to his position on the solution for Kosovo, adding that he thought the best way to resolve the issue is demarcation. "No secret plans are made, particularly not by the Serbian government," the deputy PM and interior minister stressed, adding that there are powers saying that Serbia "should suspend the decision by which certain municipalities were joined to Kosovo over three decades ago." He said there were different approaches for Kosovo, but that the most important thing was for the issue to be resolved as soon as possible. Dacic pointed out that it was legitimate for Serbia to defend its interests, and that it remained to be seen whether it was possible to find a compromise which would enable the continuance of talks and granting of candidacy to Serbia. Speaking about the conditions on Serbia's EU pathway, the minister said that there were constantly new ones being imposed. "I have to admit I am not sure that the conditions being set out for Serbia's EU membership are honest. I would rather say that new conditions are being imposed so that the country's candidacy would be rejected," the minister stated. “Serbia belongs in the EU, but must not forget its national and state interests. However, without clearly defined national interests, Serbia should not be a part of the EU,” Dacic concluded. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file)
