Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic has announced that his party will not vote for draft law on budget revision. He has stated that messages which the government is sending with revision of the 2010 budget are “devastating for everybody in the country”. LDP won’t vote for budget revision “We’ve been living off loans with loan shark interests and our state is rapidly becoming indebted in order for the government to cover deficits which have been piling up for years and which will be repeated and increased next year as well,” Jovanovic stressed. He pointed out that not a single essential issue or reform which would help us work more, have better incomes and facilitate budget needs in the next several years was mentioned in the draft budget revision. The LDP leader has announced that his party will vote against the draft budget revision because the government refuses to respond to LDP’s four proposals of economic, political and social reforms. “The state today does not have EUR 2 or 3mn to pay for students’ tuitions who studied and got 48 (ESPB) points, but at the same time it’s borrowing EUR 51mn which is throwing away on financing of Jat Airways which is incapable of surviving,” he stressed. The LDP leader points out that if the LDP’s proposal had been adopted in 2008, Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) would not have been sold for EUR 400mn and that a fairer agreement would have been reached, “let’s say like the one Bulgaria recently reached”. He explained that the Law on Planning and Construction and destruction of legal security had driven away investors from Serbia, while decision to speed up the EU integration by joining NATO would increase number of foreign investments and security. Therefore, he said, we would not have to look for an excuse for additional loan of EUR 250mn to cover budget deficit, even though Serbia recently borrowed EUR 300mn for the same purpose. “The LDP cannot take any minister’s word for it, especially not the economy minister who is promising that income of investments will be USD 4bn next year,” Jovanovic said and repeated that investment inflow was only USD 500mn this year, the same level as in Montenegro which is 15 times smaller than Serbia.
