Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic has denied opposition accusations that she scheduled the Code of Procedure vote to prevent MPs from going to Kosovo yesterday. Opposition officials accused her of deliberately scheduling the parliamentary vote on changes to the Code of Procedure for Tuesday, so that the majority of MPs would have to stay in Belgrade and thus miss the ceremonial session of the Kosovo Serb assembly in Zvecan. Speaker: No boycott of Kosovo “We decided that parliament should, above all, technically ensure the work of the Kosovo Committee in Zvecan, because, ultimately, that meeting is being held on Serbian territory. Everyone who wanted to go to the meeting was allowed to do so, they were provided transportation and were escorted to the boundary,” she told daily Vecernje Novosti. Djukic-Dejanovic denied the claims of the opposition that the buses to Kosovo were purposely scheduled for 05:00 CET and the parliamentary vote at 10:00 CET to prevent as many ruling coalition MPs travelling as possible. She added that transportation had been laid on after the session as well. “Transportation was laid on after the vote as well. We knew that the session wouldn’t last long. It was clear that those who wanted to make it to the vote, and to Zvecan for the meeting of the Kosovo Committee, could do so,” she explained. The speaker also dismissed “with indignation” the claims that certain diplomatic circles had intimated to the ruling coalition that they should not go to Kosovo as it would be seen as provocation.
