PM Vojislav Kostunica says he will support signing the SAA if “a sentence confirming that Kosovo is a constituent and inalienable part of Serbia” is added. “In the event of the EU agreeing to it, I am prepared to immediately and most strongly support the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), and I am convinced that the entire Serbian people will support such an agreement because it is in the interests of the Serbian state,” said Kostunica in a statement. Kostunica demands annex to SAA According to the prime minister, if the EU rejects that proposal under U.S. and NATO pressure, it will be clear that NATO wants the SAA signed in order to claim that Serbia has recognized the false state of Kosovo. “Following the unilateral independence declaration and the dispatch of the illegal EU mission to Kosovo, we have to receive an answer from Brussels as to precisely what Serbia will be signing with the EU. I publicly call on EU officials to tell Serbian citizens whether or not they believe that the SAA should contain a sentence saying that Kosovo is Serbia,” he insisted. Kostunica pointed out that nobody had the right to “sign any agreement on behalf of Serbia, in the interests of the NATO pact, that could be interpreted tomorrow as a recognition of Kosovo independence.” “Parties and coalitions that wish to sign Solana’s agreement can do that only on behalf of their own parties, but it certainly doesn’t commit Serbia to anything,” underlined the prime minister.
