VS: Romania supports Serbian position

Serbian Army (VS) Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Zdravko Ponoš says Romania has repeated its support for Serbia.

Serbian Army (VS) Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Zdravko Ponos says Romania has repeated its support for Serbia. Ponos said that his Romanian counterpart Georgi Marin and State Secretary in the Defense Ministry Corneliu Dobritoiu, with whom he spoke in Bucharest had repeated their support for Serbia‘s position on the issue of Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence. VS: Romania supports Serbian position “We exchanged opinions on the security situation in the region and concluded that we had close, even overlapping, positions on the majority of issues,” he said. The lieutenant-general is on a visit to Romanian armed forces. He said that in talks on bilateral military cooperation, areas of joint interest had been defined, such as training and joint exercises, planning and budgeting, while experiences were also shared concerning long-term purchasing and equipment programs. Ponos said that the Serbian and Romanian armies could take part in a joint exercise as early as this year, and definitely in 2009. The lieutenant-general is today visiting Romanian army units and observing exercises.
