Russian forces are locked in fierce clashes with Georgia inside its breakaway South Ossetia region, reports say. Moscow sent armored units across the border after Georgia moved against Russian-backed separatists. "A Russian humanitarian convoy has come under fire. Panic is growing among the local population, and the number of refugees is increasing. There are reports of ethnic cleansing in some villages... The situation is ripe for a humanitarian catastrophe," Lavrov was quoted by RIA Novosti. Fleeing resident Lyudmila Ostayeva, 50, told AP news agency: "I saw bodies lying on the streets, around ruined buildings, in cars. It's impossible to count them now.
