Croatian high school students are not in favor of Croatia’s EU membership and they express explicit nationalistic and homophobic views, a survey shows. According to the poll conducted by GONG NGO, Croatian high school students are also "fairly politically illiterate". High school students don't like EU The survey, which included 999 high school seniors, has showed that more than 40 percent of them oppose prosecution of Croatian soldiers who committed crimes during the war in the 1990’s. Also about 40 percent of them think that Croats should have more rights than other nations in Croatia. Almost half of them, 49.2 percent, are against Croatia’s EU membership. Only 27.6 percent of high school students believe that so-called Independent State of Croatia (WW2 puppet Nazi entity) was a fascist state, while 14 percent are against stiff punishments for public displays of fascist symbols, Zagreb-based daily Jutranji List writes. While on one hand, the students are not conservative since 62.5 percent believe that men and women should equally share house chores, on the other, more than 45 percent of them think that homosexuality is a disease, and only 30 percent think that it is not. As many as 64.3 percent of the surveyed students said that homosexuals should be banned from making public appearances, so as to prevent their bad influence on the youth, the daily pointed out. According to the Zagreb newspaper, along with "such primitive views", the students interviewed have also showed a high level of ignorance regarding country’s political system.
