Serbian and Montenegrin Presidents Boris Tadic and Filip Vujanovic said Friday that the two states should foster cooperation. This would come in the interest of their peoples and economies, despite their disagreement regarding Kosovo, they said. Serbia, Montenegro to "foster relations" They conferred on the sidelines of the energy summit in Sofia, Bulgaria, on prospects for cooperation in the economic and energy sectors. Serbia and Montenegro do not share the same views on some issues, particularly Kosovo. Recognition of Kosovo by Montenegro was a painful development for Serbia, but this does not mean that the two countries should not seek ways for resolving the issues of elementary interest to the citizens of Serbia and Montenegro, Tadic said. Vujanovic said he would visit Belgrade on May 18 at Tadic's invitation. Bilateral relations are moving forward, as demonstrated by efficient cooperation at ministerial level, he said. As regards cooperation in the energy sector, he said that Montenegro has definitely abandoned the Buk Bijela hydro-power plant project for environment protection reasons. The Buk Bijela project was planned to be realized by Serbia, Montenegro and Republic of Srpska. This does not mean that the three countries cannot cooperate in the energy sector, as the region has a shortage of electric power, Vujanovic said. The Buk Bijela project is one of the best projects in Europe at this time and would be most useful. In any case, Serbia and Bosnian and Srpska power companies will build hydro-power plants on the Drina river, Tadic said. Serbian and Montenegrin power industries are naturally linked, and any foreign company wishing to invest in the Montenegrin power industry will have to conclude a strategic agreement with the Serbian power industry too, he said.
