Two people have died in a storm that hit southwestern Macedonia last night, reports say. Several villages in the region have been left without power supply, as the strong wind uprooted trees and tore down bridges. Two dead in severe Macedonia storm Residents of Radovis, which was the headrest hit, say their village this morning looks as if "a tsunami" hit it, with even the asphalt pavements on the roads destroyed. Slobodan Lisickov, 46, was killed in a factory ground when he fell to the ground after the wind lifted him up in the air. The second victim, an unidentified 79-year-old woman, drowned in the Beljinska River. One person is still listed as missing, while reports say 150 workers in a local factory were saved from drowning. Earlier, news agencies reported that severe storms killed at least one person Thursday night as they whipped through Macedonia and Bulgaria. The storms came after a bout of unseasonably warm weather that included the warmest-ever December day on record in Bulgaria, local media reported Friday. In Bulgaria, daytime temperatures on Thursday shot above 20 degrees. It was warmest in Veliko Tarnovo, in central Bulgaria, with an incredible 28.6 degrees centigrade. The storms came in the night, hitting the southern Kardzali region the hardest. Dozens of villages were left without power. Houses were damaged nationwide. In Sofia the gale-force wind damaged a terminal at the airport. No injuries were reported.
