Officials in Montenegro have denied that the health of the Albanians arrested on terror charges has deteriorated. The four Albanians, holding U.S. passports, were arrested in September 2006, and have been charged with preparing an armed rebellion in this former Yugoslav republic. U.S. congressmen criticize Podgorica over arrested Albanians Today, the chief of Montenegrin prisons, Bozidar Vuksanovic, said allegations that they are in poor health are untrue. "None of these persons incarcerated in our prisons has suffered a deterioration of health," he told Beta news agency, and added that the penitentiary in question provides modern medical treatment. Vuksanovic's comments came after a group of U.S. congressmen recently sent a letter to Montenegro's Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, asking his cabinet to "respect human rights" of the four, and "secure improvement of their health and speed up the court procedure against them". The four U.S. citizens are members of a group of 17 Albanians who were arrested on Sept. 10, 2006 – the day when parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro. Montenegro has a large ethnic Albanian minority inside its borders.
