Montenegrin PM Milo Djukanovic says his time in public office greatly helped in running his business interests. “After almost 20 years in politics, I have a rich phone book of acquaintances and friends,” Djukanovic told Podgorica TV IN last night, adding that these friends offered him capital to invest in business. The Montenegrin prime minister said that he had integrity and that “of course, a person who has money isn’t going to offer it to someone who doesn’t.” “Do you think Clinton, Schroeder and others do things any differently?” he asked. Djukanovic said that in Montenegro today "there is a unique situation, since for the first time in its history, there is enough money for all its development projects, including the very biggest.” The Montenegro prime minister said that a “new business class” had been created in Montenegro, and that corruption was not the main problem. He said that the government’s aim by 2009 was to achieve results that would encourage Montenegro’s citizens to re-elect the current leadership. Milo Djukanovic (FoNet, archive)
