Albania will pay victims of communism EUR 417mn in compensation, to begin in 2008, and projected to last eight years. The 2008 budget has envisaged around EUR 8.25mn for this purpose, said a government representative. Albania to compensate victims of communism The Institute for the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Communism in Albania announced that under the law, the families of 2000 victims, as well as 15,000 Albanians who received prison sentenced during the Enver Hoxha regime would receive damages. The Law on Compensation for the Victims and Outlaws of Communism, enacted this year, is based on the 1991 Law on Amnesty and its amendments, and applies to those shot, killed, interned or detained by the dictatorial regime, reports the Maxfax agency.

The Institute for the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Communism in Albania announced that under the law, the families of 2000 victims, as well as 15,000 Albanians who received prison sentenced during the Enver Hoxha regime would receive damages.

The Law on Compensation for the Victims and Outlaws of Communism, enacted this year, is based on the 1991 Law on Amnesty and its amendments, and applies to those shot, killed, interned or detained by the dictatorial regime, reports the Maxfax agency.
