"Serbia is reliable partner" - high-ranking Chinese official

Zhang conveyed to Vucic the cordial greetings of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and said the ties had embarked on a new historic phase, as indicated by intensive political dialogue and exchange of top-level visits.

The Chinese official said that during his visit, which he considers to have been very fruitful, he felt "the sincere friendship of the Serbian people." The two interlocutors noted that such political relations are an excellent basis to develop economic cooperation, the Serbian president's press office said in a statement.

Vucic said that Serbia was looking forward to China's development success both in domestic and foreign policy arenas, and that it was of utmost importance for Serbia to be a part of the Chinese Belt and Road international initiative, as well as a participant in the China-CEES cooperation mechanism.

Zhang "stressed how much China appreciates Serbia's contribution to these international projects" and added that Chinese officials would continue to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Serbia.

Vucic pointed out that, thanks to Chinese investments, Serbia restored production in the Smederevo steelmaker and is modernizing the Belgrade-Budapest rail line.

Vucic also thanked the high-ranking Chinese official for the continuing and principled support when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija and reiterated Serbia's support to the One China policy.

The two interlocutors "emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation for the development of relations between Serbia and China and in this regard, the Protocol on Cooperation between the two parliaments, signed during Zhang's visit."

China regards Serbia as a reliable friend and stands ready to work together with Serbia to strengthen political mutual trust, push forward the win-win cooperation, enhance the friendship of the two peoples and increase communications on major international and regional issues, China's Xinhua agency quoted Zhang as saying on Wednesday.

During his three-day visit, Zhang spoke with Serbian National Assembly President Maja Gojkovic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic in separate meetings, and also addressed the Assembly during a special session.
