Montenegrin PM: It's natural to visit Belgrade first

"This means a lot to Serbia, which respects his decision very much," Vucic said, and "reiterated that there is room for the improvement of cooperation between the two countries," the Serbian government said on its website.

"It is possible to increase the trade exchange and cooperation in the field of infrastructure works, and to continue working on connecting the two countries. There is a possibility of cooperation in attracting tourists, mainly from Serbia to Montenegro, but also vice versa," Vucic said.

"Montenegro is on the road to becoming a member of NATO, that Serbia is not a member if - but it will respect the decision of Montenegro," he said.

Vucic "reiterated that Serbia wants to retain its military neutrality, but absolutely understands and respects the intention of Montenegro to join the Western military alliance."

According to him, the cooperation of Serbia and Montenegro in the field of European integration is extremely good, and highlighted as very important the joint efforts by the two countries to get closer to European values.

Serbia and Montenegro, as he pointed out, have a good cooperation on their path to Europe and they also have cooperation within the framework of the Berlin Process, as part of which meetings will be held in Sarajevo and the main one in Trieste in July.

"The two countries will develop cooperation within the framework of the Group 16 + 1 with China," Vucic said, adding that the promotion of cooperation would be good for both countries, but also for the whole region, "in order to show that there are not only problems, but concrete and good cooperation as well."

"It's not at all accidental that my first visit is to Serbia," Markovic said, adding: "We've had substantial and open conversations, we'll work in a dedicated manner, and together."

According to the Montenegrin PM, "Serbia-Montenegro relations are the best they have been in the last 20 years."

He also "thanked Vucic for that."

"That's the foundation we will build on, and do everything so that Serbia and Montenegro are even closer," Markovic said.
