Property issues "no priority" - U.S. ambassador

Asked to name those more important issues, Kirby said he refers primarily to the issues relating to the judiciary, the formation of a community of Serb municipalities, phone code for Kosovo and insurance.

He said that several preparatory meetings have been held ahead of the new round of the dialogue which should begin in Brussels later in the day, given that new governments were formed in both Belgrade and Pristina in the meantime.

He also pointed to the fact that Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met with Vice-President of the U.S. Joseph Biden and other U.S. officials in Munich on Saturday, describing the talks as very useful.

"Now it is the right time to sit down to the negotiating table and negotiate again," the U.S. ambassador said, adding that the outcome of the dialogue will depend on the willingness of the negotiating teams to make progress.

The diplomat was quoted as saying that he "last night received a mail about the progress already made."

"But you all know that last step is also the most difficult," Kirby stated, adding that "the dialogue will depend on the willingness of negotiating teams of Serbia and Kosovo to move forward."

Kirby voiced belief that there is willingness on both sides, but that the problem lies in "tiny little details."

Representatives of Belgrade and Pristina are on Monday meeting in Brussels to resume their talks on the normalization of relations, now facilitated by the new European foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini. The negotiations will resume after ten months.

The agenda of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is set with consent from both parties, and according to earlier announcements, it is expected that the new round will focus on the implementation of the agreements reached so far and unresolved issues, such as judiciary integration, setting up a community of Serb municipalities and energy.
