Commander of the Niš Gendarmerie detachment Nenad Kostić was dismissed and criminal charges have been filed against seven members of this police unit.

Commander of Niš Gendarmerie detachment dismissed

Criminal charges were filed over the brutal beating and excessive use of force against Andrej Vučić and two members of the Military Security Agency in Belgrade downtown on September 28, when the Gendarmerie was engaged in the protection of the Pride Parade.

The bother of Serbian Prime MiNišter Aleksandar Vučić, Andrej Vučić, and the brother of the Belgrade Mayor SiNiša Mali, Predrag Mali, and two security guards as members of the Military Security Agency were beaten up by the members of the Niš Gendarmerie detachment.

Andrej and two security guards suffered severe injuries, Prime MinisterNišter Aleksandar Vučić told a news conference on the same day.

He noted that the line of authority was breached and that apologies were accepted, and added that his brother and two security guards decided not to sue the members of the Gendarmerie who beat them.

In the talks with the Gendarmerie commander and the police director, Serbian Minister of Interior Nebojša Stefanović issued instructions to launch an investigation in order to establish the circumstances in which excessive use of force took place, and five members of the Niš Gendarmerie were suspended from duty two days later.

The Military Police and the Military Security Agency also completed their share of work in the investigation into the beating of Vučić's brother.
