Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) deputy leader Slobodan Samardzic stated Friday that the Kosovo police acted brutally during the celebration of St. Vitus Day. He claims the action of the Kosovo police was aimed at intimidating the Serbs in the province. “Kosovo police acted brutally against Serbs” Samardzic told Kosovska Mitrovica-based Radio Kontakt Plus that Kosovo police officers treated young Serbs violently and brutally and took away all Serbian symbols, T-shirts with emblems and state flags from them at the Gazimestan monument on Thursday, ahead of the beginning of a memorial service to honor the fallen medieval heroes. “There were a lot of police officers and what made the biggest impression was that members of the Kosovo police stood there with machine guns pointed at the people, which was a manifestation of brutality, force and potential terror,” he said. Samardzic, who is also the former minister for Kosovo, pointed out that the motive for such behavior was the intention to expel Serbs from the province. “Kosovo police officers' manner on such a great Serbian holiday leaves an uncomfortable impression of permanent terror of the Albanian quasi-state on the territory of Kosovo,” he concluded.
