Roads in northern Kosovo are again open for traffic after Serbs removed a barricade from the Zubin Potok-Zvecan road and KFOR troops withdrew from the road. Northern Kosovo Serbs stopped six EULEX vehicles that were headed toward the Jarinje administrative crossing in the village of Banov Do around 10:00 CET on Thursday. Roads in northern Kosovo open for traffic Soon after Bulgarian KFOR troops set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the village of Zitkovac near Banov Do. KFOR troops have also set up a checkpoint in the village of Jagnjenica, thus completely blocking the Zubin Potok-Zvecan-Kosovska Mitrovica road. The local Serbs removed the barricade made of tree trunks around 12:30 CET. Serb representatives reached an agreement with KFOR Commander of Infantry and Logistics Units in northern Kosovo Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Lynch that all EULEX and KFOR vehicles return to south Kosovska Mitrovica and unblock the roads. The KFOR troops that had been blocking the road in the villages of Jagnjenica and Zerovnica then withdrew and allowed vehicles to go through. During the two-hour talks, the northern Kosovo Serbs offered Lynch to allow three EULEX vehicles, accompanied by KFOR, to go through and that the remaining three return to the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. However, the KFOR officer refused and repeated that according to an agreement reached with the Zvecan municipal officials on January 11, EULEX vehicles could move freely if accompanied by KFOR and if they did not transport Kosovo customs and border police officers and that their number was not limited. The citizens did not accept the explanation, claiming that EULEX was not status neutral and that its members were helping Albanians establish their institutions in northern Kosovo and that therefore they were not welcome in the north. The KFOR and EULEX vehicles returned to south Kosovska Mitrovica and the Zvecan municiapal and KFOR representatives agreed to hold a meeting on Friday morning in order to find a solution that would allow international missions to move freely in northern Kosovo.
