Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said that a unilateral decision for northern Kosovo can only lead to endangering the security and stability of the region. Jeremic said that the international community must concentrate on security in Kosovo. “Unilateral moves destabilize region” He said that the opening of the regional center for emergency situation in Nis will increase diplomatic presence in the city, including both regional officials and other international ones. “Our primary partner in opening the center is the Russian Federation, but we expect participatation from regional countries and the European Union,” he said. The Foreign Minister said that there have been talks held with some countries already about opening consular headquarters in Nis, and that this will happen some time next year. Jeremic met with local officials, including Nis Mayor Milos Simovic, after which he stated that security in Kosovo and the region could be drastically endangered if a unilateral decision was reached regarding the integration of northern Kosovo. “Our most important task is to protect the Serbs and the cultural heritage in Kosovo, and KFOR has sole responsibility for the Serbs according to Resolution 1244. We will work politically and diplomatically in order to fulfill our responsibilities with the amount of forces we have to work with,” Jeremic said.
