United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovic says that the principles agreed on by the DSS and SNS leaders are not acceptable to the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition. “First and foremost, for the SPS-PUPS-JS, calling elections and a referendum on NATO entry are unacceptable. I mean, what has Kosovo got to do with communal problems in Zemun?“ Markovic told daily Vecernje Novosti. "SNS-DSS principles unacceptable to JS" “The principles that we can form power on with all parties that passed the census are tarmacking roads, building toilets in Batajnica, cutting the cost of communal services and the salaries of municipal officials in Zemun and Vozdovac, not global problems,“ said Markovic. Nor do JS’s coalition partners, the Socialists, believe any agreement can be reached with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) or Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) to form local authorities in the two Belgrade municipalities. “But, if it does happen to occur, we’re sure it won’t have any impact on the coalition’s unity,“ said Markovic. DSS and SNS leaders Vojislav Kostunica and Tomislav Nikolic reached agreement over five principles for uniting the opposition—early elections, a referendum on NATO, the struggle for Kosovo, adoption of the Vojvodina statute in line with the Constitution, and cooperation at local level.
