Interior Minister and First Deputy PM Ivica Dacic says no one will be privileged in the fight against crime. "Not even those who draft, propose, adopt or implement laws will be privileged," Dacic said during the ceremonies in Belgrade to mark Police and Ministry Day, and added that "those who think they are stronger than the state, and will be spared from the hand of the law, are mistaken". MUP marks Police, Ministry Day President Boris Tadic echoed the same sentiment when he said that "absolutely no one is protected in the fight against crime and corruption". Tadic spoke to reporters during the Police Day celebrations in Makis, to stress that his statement refers to "members of political parties, owners of big capital and people close to the state". He also stated that "no one should be indicted until there is evidence gathered against them". "Investigative organs are examining whether someone obtained their property illegally," Tadic said, and concluded that "interests of the state and citizens will be protected". The ceremonies started with Dacic, Police Directorate chief Milorad Veljovic and other top MUP officials placing a wreath at the memorial plaque dedicated to Serbia's first police minister, Jakov Nenadovic. In a statement for B92, Veljovic reiterated that the fight against organized crime, corruption and drug trafficking remains a priority for the police. "The police have full support, while their role in the state can be interpreted in different ways. The most important thing is for the police not to be partisan, they must be people's. They must not, and will not, become an instrument in the hands of any party. And that is what's most important for the police at this moment," he stated. The ceremonies moved from the streets of Belgrade to the suburb of Makis, and MUP's training center there. Special, parachute and helicopter units demonstrated their skills there for an audience including top state officials, religious dignitaries and diplomats.
