The Belgrade District Court has remanded Sasa Mega into custody for a period of 30 days. He is suspected of having committed four rapes. Court spokesperson Ivana Ramic told Tanjug that the investigative judge has seen Mega, and that he was remanded into custody while the investigation is being led into the rapes. According to Serbian law, a sentence of two to 15 years can be given if the suspect is found guilty of having committed a rape, and a recent change in the law made the courts obligated to give a sentence that is not under the legal maximum. Mega, who is already a repeat offender and has been in prison for the crime, was arrested on a Belgrade train on Friday. He was released from a prison in Pozarevac in September, where he was serving a sentence for an earlier rape.
