Director of the National Employment Service (NES) Vladimir Ilic says that the world crisis will not lead to major job cuts in Serbia. “There will be no large-scale redundancies as privatisation has reached its closing stages, and since we have an undeveloped financial market, the negative repercussions will be smaller here,” Ilic said in an interview for Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. “World crisis won’t lead to job cuts“ “In spite of reports that the Serbian budget will be restrictive, the funds for active employment measures, under the worst of conditions, will be the same as last year (EUR 36.7mn), though we will aim for more,” Ilic pointed out. “Due to the new profile of employers on the Serbian labor market and the arrival of world companies, the demand for highly educated personnel has increased. However, there is still a tendency to send young people in the wrong direction. It is essential that the education system be harmonized with the needs of employers, rather than with the wishes of parents and pupils,“ Ilic stressed.
