Human and Ethnic Minority Rights Service director Petar Lađević told journalist that demands coming from those citizens identifying themselves as Yugoslavs to be recognized as a minority should not be dismissed.

“The first condition is that they appear in the census results in a sufficient number. However, there are many other technical preconditions, such as, the group’s language, as a key point of identity,” Lađević told Novi Sad’s Građanski List newspaper.

“We have accepted a concept that says the state does not identify ethnic minorities, rather that each group that meets legal requirements can be granted that status,” he said.
