You are probably one of those who get the info form CNN and Co. which leads me to believe you will justify the destruction of Iraq based on deliberately fabricated "evidence" as well as Libya chaos and then the Syria issue and all those other "great" things NATO had accomplished in the past 15 or so years which caused hundreds of thousands of deaths.Great job. And before visiting Serbian news sites to spread your BS maybe you could clean up your back yard first. I haven't seen your mentors Bush or Cheney being sent to Hague for their part in WMD fiasco.

Thank you for supporting my original point. To the good folks reading B92, you see how some individuals cannot eschew ethnocentrism and blatant racism (for lack of better words)? The immediate reaction is to insult Serbs, an entire people. Hey 'think for once', you should direct your attack at me, not at the entire Serb ethnicity. If you have problem with something I said, attack me, not the Serbs. I'm not attacking Albanians or Serbs. My mother was a Serb, but I'm not going to support anyone, Serb or Albanian who disrespects an entire nation for such folly. But you have the facts wrong, yes NATO did target some "civilian" targets because they were in fact undercover military installations. The targeting of the Radio station was discussed many days by many people before it became an actual target, warning was given that it would be taken out, and Milosevic chose to put some disposable civilians in the way to try and propagandize the act.

I can see where you use the ISIS analogy because if you talk to any ISIS person they think their terrorist actions are righteous, just as daily the Serbs come on here and defend their actions in Yugoslavia.

  6. the problem here is that some people are ignorant... The laws of war do not say that killing of civilians is always unacceptable. It is the wanton or disproportional targeting of civilians that is unacceptable and is a war crime. It's not that Milosevic and the Serbian military operated in some uninhabited area...

That's why countries should be careful about going to war - Milosevic gambled on that thinking that nobody would do anything serious to stop him, and lost his gamble!
    (icj1, 24 November 2015 05:28)

I have to disagree with you. Although there are supposedly no laws of war governing civilian deaths, we in the West should know better than that. Instead, NATO targeted civilian targets pretending they had military significance. Their aim was to overthrow Milosevic by causing discomfort in civilians, most of whom didn't give a darn about war or Milosevic. Destroying infrastructure was unacceptable. NATO and the US has a history of doing such attacks and also using sanctions that attack civilians. The destruction of civilian targets is the same as using human shields to protect terrorists from death.
Milosevic was a bad guy. Your defending of NATO's actions shows little sophistication in your cognitive/moral competence. You can make excuses all you want, but if you accept what NATO did as Milosevic's fault, you probably also are more likely to believe that the deaths caused by ISIS in France are France's fault.

"As announced in her address to the UN Security Council on Friday 2 June, 2000, the Prosecutor, Carla Del Ponte, has decided not to open a criminal investigation into any aspect of NATO's 1999 air campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia."
As far as my comments on "allowing Serbia to survive" I did not mean that figuratively, but that any truce should have been superseded by an agreement similar to Kosovo. The entire govt of Serbia should have been cast out and the military not only withdrawn from Kosovo but disarmed and disbanded and SERBIA placed under international supervision with Kosovo and rebuilt to insure that the 90's were never to be repeated. As with Germany and Japan, two of the most successful countries on the planet today.
but instead you have Serbia stagnated in that their ultimate goal today is to rid Kosovo of all Albanians.

Look what it did to Libya, which is now in chaos with Islamic gangs taking over.
The U.S. is also shipping 22,000 bombs to Saudi Arabia for their ongoing attack on Yemen. Which has killed thousands of civilians since March of this year.
I read that over 1,600 children have been killed by Saudi bombers so far.

No, you didn't :). And what helped stop the actions of the regime were the bombs that centered their objectives, not the (few) ones that tragically and regrettably went in the wrong places, starting with the army and air targets, and then the diplomatic pressure and Serbia's isolation. In fact, it is considered one of Nato's most successful missions. They reached their objective (again: the objective was to stop the actions of the regime in Kosovo) with minimal loss of human lives on all sides compared to other wars, like Afghanistan for example.

The Chinese embassy, by admission of the president or prime minister of China at the time, was serving as communication center for the Serbian army. He wrote about this later and there was an article about it on B92 some time ago.

And by the way, you seem a bit confused, NATO did not go to Iraq. It was just Bush and a few others. Not sure if NATO went to Libya either, maybe it did, don't know much about that, so prefer to stay silent :).

NATO has an appalling track record of shooting everyone and everything and then taking credit victories that are as devoid of meaning as they are hollow of action. NATO has an equally appalling track record of wasting time patting itself on its back for an imagined victory while people on the ground use the opportunity to take vengeance into their own hands and target people unaffiliated with the previous regime, as we've seen in Kosovo, Iraq, Libya, and very soon Syria. That they "regret" civilian victims more than 15 years later is a pathetic attempt at covering up their past actions.

Firstly, there were two separate referenda for membership of the different organisations in 2003 and Slovenia had been invited to join NATO by that organisation not forced to do so by the EU. Secondly, even if the two had indeed been linked, there is always a choice although like all choices there is usually a sacrifice to be made. I hope Serbia thinks very carefully about EU membership and the sacrifices that the accession process will entail for the population at large. As for NATO and Serbia, they do not need each other and I can see no justifiable reason for Serbia to either be asked to join or accept any invitation.

  38. There sure are some unintelligent comments here. Collateral damage is never acceptable. Even in the case of Nazi Germany, the carpet bombing of civilian locations was criminal, as was the dropping of the Atomic bombs on civilian targets. If the target was Milosevic, then he alone and the military should have been the target, nothing more.
The problem is that the individuals commenting here are so angry at their own personal situations that you keep on displacing your anger on the other. The first step is to look at yourself and blame yourselves for the mess you are in. If you are poor or cannot afford to live the lifestyle you wish you could live, it's nobody's fault but your own. Instead, though, you want to blame Serbs or Albanians. Blame yourself. I earned my status through hard work. Do the same and stop blaming others. It will make you happier.

  41. Oh, it "regrets civilian victims"... That would be about the entire population of Serbia, from the strongest, surviving with just minor PTSD, to the ones murdered. Many more have been dying from leukemias and other cancers in any given year between 1999 and today, than those who died as a direct result of explosions in 1999.
Freedom-of-the-press-defending NATO, bombing RTS; human-rights-defending NATO, bombing bridges not used by the military, schools and hospitals; international-order-respecting NATO, using banned ammunition and bombing foreign embassies... Murdering the nation, absorbing the best of it into their societies without paying a penny for their education, raping the rest into the guilt complex, depression and the slavish low-wage work for their companies. Glad your childhood in Belgrade was such a happy one, little Jens. Those must have been some other, non-evil Serbs providing you with the good memories back then, right?

  43. @ICJ1....

We have a challenger... icj1.... your just as bad as those nazi war criminals.

First the NAZI regime attack Serbia in WWII and the the NATO war dogs in the 90s... now icj1 in the 21st century believes it was justified, when clearly according to international law these acts were criminal... so are you really against breaking laws and upholding the perversion of justice and allowing America and its allies to be an exception to international law which was established after world war 2 to prevent the same mistakes from happening again...?

You are a worry icj1... people like you have no respect for sovereignty, which is why one day sovereignty will not exist, because of people like you and when that day comes, it will be your country of residence which will be violated by a foreign country and you will submit to a greater power... if it can happen to Serbia, it can happen to france or Germany, such is the case during WWII...

Icj1, your belief that NATO done the right thing has caused a domino effect which is causing instability throughout the world. Thanks to NATO, Russia has gained more territory in Crimea, and Georgia. Thanks to NATO, Libya is a failed state and ISIS terrorizes north africa through to the middle east.

Icj1, your childish intellect and your disrespect for international law has created a system where sovereignty can be challenged when a country tries to save itself from being terrorized from jihadist militias as in the case of kosovo.

After all it was their politics that got them in to the mess. Its a miracle the world waited until the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo to intervene like they did.

Say what you want, play victim how much you want but at least honor your dead and accept the truth. Its this nationalistic propaganda that got you into 4 wars and its this inhuman worldview that got your own people killed. No. Its not NATOS fault. Its your fault. Every dead Serb is your fault. What did the Devil accomplish by savagely and severely bombing Christian Eastern Orthodxy in the Balkans for 78 day? Serbian Holy land Kosovo not occupied by Islam, occupied by Satan! Kosovo and Srpska Krajina were Serbian Eastern Orthodox Christians lived on their lands and in their homes for ages stolen by the Devil him self! Milosevic needed to be removed, just like all the other leaders of countries and nations who were murdered by the USA so that the population be raped and murdered by Satan! Good old USA, what would we Christian Eastern Orthodox people do with out you? Just look and see how happy Serbia is compared to a quarter century ago, we Christian Eastern Orthodox Slavic people are so happy with this new world order the USA is imposing on all nations in the world! So according to the USA, England, Germany, International Community the murder of Serbia justified, Eastern Orthodox Christians deserve death? Why do Serbian politicians continue to entertain Satan? Any Christian Eastern Orthodox Slav any where in the world must never forget the tears and blood that was spilled by Satan upon our race! How can we Serbian people ever move ahead when we permit the Devil to wrap his filty hands around our necks?
