Croatia will on August 4 and 5 in Zagreb and Knin celebrate the 20th anniversary since the military operation - something that Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic and Serb Republic (RS) President Milorad Dodik said would be a day of mourning in Serbia and the Serb entity in Bosnia.

Commenting on the anniversary and its marking in Croatia, Covic said, "we need to turn to the future and leave the past to historians."

"I am aware of the relations we have today and for that reason I think that (Operation) Storm and all other storms that happened in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia must not be the subject of constant speculation," he has been quoted as saying.

Covic then added that "the reality of our surroundings is that we have at least three different ways of looking at such events," and that "one person's criminal is always another person's hero."

According to him, "the war should be viewed in that sense."

"Each victory is celebration for one group, and a day of mourning for another. I am a Croat and a representative of the Croatian people and of course I have my stance toward all the events in these parts and I don't hide it," said Covic.
