BERLIN German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will try to convince both sides of the necessity of a swift and sustainable implementation of the Brussels agreement. This is according to the German Foreign Ministry. German FM to demand swift implementation of agreement An implementation plan should now follow, which is why EU High Representatives Catherine Ashton invited Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to a meeting in Brussels on April 21, reads the German Foreign Ministry’s release. Noting that Westerwelle coordinated his visit with Ashton, the Ministry says the German foreign minister wants to contribute to the success of her efforts with his talks in Belgrade and Pristina. Germany supports Western Balkan countries on their path toward the EU, but unresolved conflicts still need to be overcome, between Serbia and Kosovo in particular, says the German Foreign Ministry. The Kosovo conflict needs to be resolved step by step so that both countries can look to the future, notes the Ministry, recalling that Serbia is already an EU candidate country, but that progress in relations with Kosovo is a condition of opening accession talks. German media have also reported a statement from Martin Schefer, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, who said the goal of Westerwelle's visit is to come up with a timeframe for the implementation of the Brussels agreement as soon as possible. The German Foreign Ministry announced that Westerwelle will arrive for a two-day visit to Belgrade and Pristina on May 19. His first stop is Belgrade, where he will meet with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Dacic, First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic. The German foreign minister will then visit Pristina on May 20, and talk with the Kosovo PM and Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, the release reads. Guido Westerwelle (Beta, file) Tanjug
