A police officer in the southern Serbian town of Leskovac on Monday removed a boy from the railroad tracks seconds before he would have been struck by a train.

LESKOVAC A police officer in the southern Serbian town of Leskovac on Monday removed a boy from the railroad tracks seconds before he would have been struck by a train. The reports suggest that the 13-year-old was attempting to commit suicide. Policeman prevents boy from committing railroad suicide The officer, Mikica Djikic, managed to grab the boy and remove him from the tracks when the train was only a couple of meters away. Leskovac police spokesman Boban Zdravkovic said that the boy was "sitting on the tracks" at the time. He also explained that a patrol had received a report from the citizens that "a child was sitting on the railroad crossing". "The policemen found themselves in front of the crossing as the ramp was going down, and the train nearing. The engine driver was constantly sounding the train horn. The police officer (Djikic) ran out of the car and managed to snatch the boy literally seconds before a tragedy would have occurred, and throw both himself and the boy to the side," the spokesman told Beta.
