EULEX releases five Serbs arrested at Gazimestan After additional investigations, the EULEX prosecutor in charge of the case decided to terminate the investigation against the suspects for lack of evidence. He asked the pre-trial judge of the Municipal Court in Pristina to release them from investigative detention, the EULEX release said. The pre-trial judge of the Municipal Court has meanwhile ordered the release of the five Serbs who had previously been given one-month detention. The five Serbs were attending a St. Vitus Day gathering at Gazimestan - the monument commemorating the Battle of Kosovo, situated a few kilometers south-east of the actual field where the battle took place. Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej served a memorial service for the soldiers of the Serbian medieval kingdom fallen in the 1389 battle, when members of the Kosovo police (KPS) arrested the five Serb men under the pretext that they "behaved as vandals and attacked police members who guarded the event with stones". EULEX later took charge over the case of the arrested Serbs, which was under the responsibility of the investigating judge in Pristina, on July 6. The Municipal Court of Pristina charged the men with assault on officers on duty and inciting racial, ethnic and religious hatred and intolerance. Four of the men were held in custody in the eastern Kosovo city of Gnjilane, while one was detained in a prison in Pristina.
