Police officers in north K.Mitrovica discussed the security situation with the province's UN police commissioner. The talks with Tor Iver Ter Frigaard come in the wake of the violent incidents that took place earlier this week in the northern part of the town. Police, UN discuss security in northern Kosovo Northern Kosovska Mitrovica Police Chief Milija Milosevic said that the present security situation in the north of Kosovo was satisfactory and under control. “We discussed the security situation in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. The UN police commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the work of the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) in northern Kosovo, which, he said, had prevented the inter-ethnic clashes from escalating,” said Milosevic. He said that a further meeting would be held with Frigaard in the coming days. The police chief said that three civilians and one UN police officer had been injured in the August 4 clashes, while a number of cars and shops had also been damaged. Kosovo and international police prevented the violence from escalating in an intervention that left one police officer injured. This was the first major inter-ethnic clash in the town since early July when local Serbs and Albanians clashed in the village of Suvi Do, near Kosovska Mitrovica, following a disagreement over the construction of a water pipeline.
