Fires on the administrative line with Kosovo and on Mt. Tara will be completely put out on Tuesday, a MUP official says. “All fires have been localized and we are in the process of extinguishing them. The remaining will be completely put out by the end of the day, since no high winds are expected,” Assistant Interior Minister Predrag Maric added. All fires in south under control Maric explained that battling wildfires along the administrative boundary between Serbia proper and Kosovo had taken so long “because firefighters could not reach the burning sites from all sides, while cooperation with services in Kosovo was lacking.” According to him, the firefighters heard shots coming from the Kosovo side, that in his words "might not have been directed at them", but which created a security risk for all those taking part in the operation. The assistant interior minister announced that fire departments in Serbia will receive 51 new fire engines in September, while new protective equipment will be delivered to fire brigades in Nis and Kragujevac.
