Marković said the possibility that her family could be stripped of their assets was above any law. “They have indicted me for some bacchanalia that never even took place”, she said. Mirjana Marković is charged with encouraging abuse of office, in other words of having talked Živka Cica Knežević, former Serbian government secretary, into allocating state funds for the purchase of a flat for her grandson’s nanny.

Speaking about her children, Marković said that “Marko will not return to the country”, while Marija was “a victim of political persecution”. Speaking about her husband’s death, she said he was “murdered” in the Hague and that her family has complained to the UN over that.
