NEW YORK UN General Assembly President Vuk Jeremic has presented the priorities for 67th session during his first press conference in New York. He put the emphasis on peaceful resolution of disputes and respect of international law. Jeremic: Protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity Another priority was revitalization of the General Assembly, the former Serbian foreign minister told reporters. Jeremic also underlined the need for “a consultative mechanism” between the Group of 20 leading economies and the rest of the world, follow-up on the the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), and design of the global development agenda beyond 2015. Asked by Italian reporters whether a reconfiguration of the Balkans will be completed during his presidency and Kosovo become 194th UN member state, Jeremic said that his stand regarding the respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the UN member states was well-known even while he served as Serbian foreign minister. "As I fought for the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, I will now fight, in the interest of all the 193 UN member states for the respect of these principles," he noted. During this year's session of the General Assembly, the reform of the Security Council and cooperation with the civil sector were also addressed. Speaking about the situation in Syria, Jeremic said that this was the topic of every bilateral meeting he has held. "100, 200, 300 people die in Syria each day," the UNGA president said, adding that the international community has so far managed to do "very little to stop the violence". Jeremic called for a joint stand in the international community, which would pave the road for stopping the violence in Syria in a peaceful way. Vuk Jeremic (Beta/AP) Tanjug
