Belgrade will not recognize results of the local elections in Kosovo, says Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic. He stated that holding of the local elections in certain municipalities in Kosovo on May 6 could harm Belgrade, adding that Belgrade would not recognize such election results. “Belgrade won’t recognize results of local polls in Kosovo" Ivanovic told Tanjug that “even with numerous political messages coming from Belgrade, which are clear to all those who wish to read them, some Serb representatives in northern Kosovo from the municipalities of Zvecan and Zubin Potok still insist on holding the elections for reasons known only to them". "I would say those reasons are above all personal or related to their parties. With their actions, they in fact do nothing but hurt Belgrade, which is losing its reputation in the international community and, if you will, among the Kosovo Albanians too, in the sense that it cannot control a part of territory and people who claim Serbia is their only country and the Serbian government the only government they recognize," Ivanovic noted. “The elections would also put the people in those municipalities in a very delicate position, because once the vote is over, it will be recorded that the people did not work with their government, but went against it,” he stressed. According to Ivanovic, it will affect the attitude of the future government, whoever forms it, towards the local population, which will then "pay the price for the actions of individuals or their assemblies."
