NS leader: EU does not want Serbia like this
I support the EU accession but Europe does not want us the way we are now because it would have to support us, New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilić has said.

I support the EU accession but Europe does not want us the way we are now because it would have to support us, New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilic has said. NS will go to the coming elections in coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) while after the elections the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) headed by Vojislav Kostunica is expected to join them in what Ilic believes will be a convincing win since, as he put it, the current government has completely drowned Serbia. NS leader: EU does not want Serbia like this The focus of the NS election campaign will be on the social-economic situation, which he describes as “never worse”, as well as the combat against corruption. The NS leader has said that during the mandate of the current government corruption has increased by 40 percent and all ministers have set up their own companies. When it comes to Kosovo, Ilic told Tanjug that the issue should be returned to framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which was discarded by Belgrade's acceptance of EULEX. Commenting on Serbia’s EU integration, Ilic said that he saw this as a good idea but that he believed that the EU did not want to accept Serbia the way it was. “I am in favor of the EU accession, but as you can see the EU is facing a huge crisis. It has stopped its enlargement and is now searching for reasons not to accept Serbia the way it is, given that it would have to offer financial help to the country which has million unemployed citizens, soup kitchens and poor infrastructure. The EU will not admit Serbia,” he underlined. According to him, the current authorities have steered the country away from the EU, “since they promised it would join the EU back at the 2008 elections, than 2013, and today they mention 2020”. “There will be no EU accession without a strong economy. Our negotiating team will have a much better position if Serbia's economy becomes stronger. We have to work a lot, and people have to know that. There must be no thefts.
