NS leader: EU does not want Serbia like this

I support the EU accession but Europe does not want us the way we are now because it would have to support us, New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilić has said.

It support the idea that Serbia should put more emphasis on its economy and competitiveness certainly makes sense. In my opinion that should mean a more competitive exchange rate and efforts to achieve export-driven growth.

It looks like the EU is not very eager to adopt Serbia at the moment - probably due to its crisis. There is little Serbia can do to change that: giving in on Kosovo will very likely mean that a little further down the road to the EU new obstacles will be thrown up - demanding more concessions in Kosovo and maybe also regarding Bosnia.

A better strategy would be to go for trade and other agreements that bring benefits now.

NS will go to the coming elections in coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) while after the elections the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) headed by Vojislav Koštunica is expected to join them...

And hopefully Koštunica becomes Prime Minister again. Nikolic is not smart enough for that position.

This current government has certainly drowned Serbia. Lets hope the electorate doesn't get fooled like last time.
