Democrats: Cabinet by end of March

Commenting on the talks held between DS and DSS last week, Mićunović said that the meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and that the structure of the cabinet should soon be agreed on.

“Following our mutual understanding of the government’s main principles, the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday will cover the distribution of ministries and most likely the post of the next prime minister”, Mićunović added.

He reiterated the Democrats’ position regarding premiership, saying that the DS as the largest party of the Democratic Bloc should gain the PM post.

Giving his opinion of the distribution of the cabinet’s departments, Mićunović said that the principle of mutual control should apply to the ministries and that the interior minister and Security Service chief could not belong to the same party.

“Security departments need new people and the mutual control principle, because corruption can hardly thrive if the interior minister, his deputies and police chiefs belong to different parties”, Mićunović said adding that the Democratic Party would be adamant when it came to respecting the distribution of power in the Parliament after the elections, meaning that the number of deputies should govern the number of ministerial posts for each party in the cabinet.

Mićunović expressed his doubts that G17 Plus would insist on keeping the Finance Ministry for itself and said that “nobody can claim a department and consider it a personal possession”.

“The DS is very interested in the Finance Ministry, given its significant role in the implementation of economic and social reforms”, Mićunović concluded.
