Gnjilane Group trial to continue on Thursday

The trial of 17 members of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Gnjilane Group will be continued in Belgrade on Thursday. The 17 ethnic Albanians are accused of war crimes against Serb and other civilians committed in the town of Gnjilane in Kosovo, in 1999. Gnjilane Group trial to continue on Thursday Nazif Hasani, Ahmet Hasani, Faton Hajdari, Samet Hajdari, Ferat Hajdari, Kamber Sahiti, Selimon Sadiku, Agush Memishi i Burim Fazli are accused of torturing to death at least 80 persons from June until late December 1999. At least 34 persons are still listed as missing and at least 153 were illegally detained, tortured and later released, reads the indictment. Ajdari Fazliu, Alia Rexhep, Shaqir Shaqiri, Musliu Shefketu, Alia Sadiku, Alia Idrizu, i Halimi Ramadanu were tried in absentia because they are still on the run. There were two separate trial originally but the entire group is now standing trial before the Higher Court in Belgrade War Crimes Department. Shemsi Nuhiu, who was arrested in Switzerland a year ago, was extradited to Serbia. He pleaded not guilty at the previous hearing. The Appellate Court in Belgrade quashed the initial verdict and ordered a retrial on December 7, 2011.
