BELGRADE It is in Serbia's interest to develop friendly relations with all countries, and the friendship with Iran has a long tradition and is very important to Serbia. These remarks were made by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Monday in Belgrade as he received a delegation of the the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Ali Larijani. "Friendship with Iran very important to Serbia" Nikolic and Larijani agreed that the practice has shown that there is much room for promotion of the economic cooperation between Serbia and Iran in spite of the sanctions which the EU has introduced in Iran, the president's press service said. They concluded that there is a realistic possibility to raise the economic cooperation between Serbia and Iran to USD 200 million annually. The Serbian president expressed hope that Serbia will show the first concrete signs that it has emerged from the economic crisis, but underlined that the necessary preconditions are discipline, hard work and reestablishment of old friendships and partnerships with many countries worldwide. Nikolic thanked Iran on the principled stance not to recognize Kosovo-Metohija's unilateral declaration of independence. Larijani conveyed the greetings of the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and an invitation to Nikolic to visit Iran, the statement reads.
