BELGRADE Committee on Kosovo and Metohija Chairman Milovan Drecun says EU's Catherine Ashton will not make Serbia a stop in her current tour of the region. Drecun, who is an MP from the ranks of the ruling Progressives (SNS), told B92 late on Monday in Belgrade that Serbia had received a request in writing "to specify the minimum of demands under which it will not go in the (Kosovo) negotiations." Committee chair: Ashton will not visit Serbia But according to him, this would be unnecessary, considering that in the previous rounds of the Kosovo dialogue "everything that Serbia is asking for has been said, and that is contained in the (parliament) resolution and the (Kosovo) platform." "The platform explains in detail our view on the creation and powers of a community of Serb municipalities. In that sense, there's no need to specify any further," Drecun stated, and added: "I think a calm is currently taking place, I don't believe Catherine Ashton will visit Belgrade this time. I do not know what kind of message she wishes to send in that way." He also stated that in order for the dialogue to continue, "everyone must be ready to take into account Serbian national and state interests in Kosovo and Metohija," while Pristina "must finally understand that if it wishes for an agreement to be reached, it must be ready for a compromise." "We have agreed that a community of Serb municipalities should be formed, that is evident progress," he said, and noted that the differences occurred over what powers should be given to that community. "We rejected an almost ultimative demand to be given nothing for the Community of Serb Municipalities. Once we rejected it, the situation started to develop. Statements came from America that something more than Ahtisaari and to some extent less than autonomy should be made. Then EU officials said the dialogue should continue." Drecun also said that he was not aware that there were any direct contacts between Belgrade and Pristina, and did not rule out "indirect influences", through officials of other countries.
