Ex-Serbian Deputy PM Jozef Kasa says Serbia needs to accept the reality that Kosovo is lost because constant dealing with the issue will destroy the country. “Constant dealing with the Kosovo issue, instead of economy, means a downfall for Serbia,” he told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik. Serbia should “accept loss of Kosovo” “Serbia needs to understand once and for all that Kosovo is lost, just like Hungary understood that it lost two-thirds of its territory after World War I,” Kasa was quoted as saying. He assessed that the state should work on protection of Serbian people’s cultural and historical monuments and heritage in Kosovo because “everything else was solved a long time ago”. “Of course, I respect Serbs’ sentimental attitude toward Kosovo. Well, Hungarians even today, 100 years after the Treaty of Trianon, take this emotionally hard. However, if they started dealing with it Hungary would start to decline,” the former deputy PM pointed out. According to him, Serbia should focus on economic development and finding partners in the European and world community. Kasa said that he could not understand why Belgrade was preventing Vojvodina from achieving higher level of autonomy. “I cannot understand why Belgrade is preventing this and why there is still that myth that Vojvodina wants secession. Belgrade needs to understand that Vojvodina belongs in Serbia and that Serbia together with Vojvodina needs to be in Europe. That’s the future,” Kasa concluded. Jozef Kasa
