The Iranian embassy in Belgrade delivered on Wednesday a protest note to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said reports in Belgrade. The protest came after a statement made by Chairman of the Serbian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and high ranking official of the ruling Democrats (DS) Dragoljub Micunovic, who said Iran was not a democratic country. Iran's protest note over DS official's statement During Tuesday's parliament session, opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) whip Milos Aligrudic said parliament still did not have a friendship group with Iran, and that Dragoljub Micunovic explained the situation by saying that Iran was not a democratic country. Iranian Ambassador Abolghasem Delfi expressed hope Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic would react in order to prevent more irresponsible and worrying statements and would undertake corrective measures. The ambassador called Micunovic's statement unfounded and irresponsible, stressing in the letter, which was also delivered to Tanjug, that his country had one of the most democratic governments in the Middle East. This is not the first time the chairman of the Serbian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has made statements against a country like Iran, which has friendly relations with Serbia, but we hope it will be the last, reads the protest note. During Tuesday's parliament session, opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) whip Miloš Aligrudić said parliament still did not have a friendship group with Iran, and that Dragoljub Mićunović explained the situation by saying that Iran was not a democratic country.

Iranian Ambassador Abolghasem Delfi expressed hope Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić would react in order to prevent more irresponsible and worrying statements and would undertake corrective measures.
