The ruling Democratic Party (DS) inspires most trust among the Serbian citizens, a new public opinion poll has shown. The party that is expected to be their arch-rival in the next election, the opposition Progressives (SNS), are seeing a ratings drop, according to this. Poll: Democrats now more popular than Progressives Previously, the two parties mostly polled neck-and-neck. The newest survey was conducted by an agency called Ninamedia, said reports. According to their results, the number of Serbians who will not vote "seems to be constantly on increase". The poll was conducted in the first half of May, when 21.7 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Democrats, while 15.6 percent said they would cast their ballots in favor of the Progressives. A slim majority of 51 percent of citizens would go to polls, with 38.1 percent of potential voters still undecided. 5.3 percent revealed that they would turn out only to "invalidate their ballot paper". In the period from April to May, the number of citizens who support the DS increased from 17.9 per cent to 21.7 percent, while the SNS rating dropped following the strike of the party's leader Tomislav Nikolic by as much as 9 percent, tumbling from 24.6 percent to 15.6 percent, said the agency. All other parties are lagging behind the country's two major parties and the poll shows that, taking into account the undecided voters, "no party except DS and SNS would be able to exceed the 5 percent census". According to this, the party closest to the census is the Serb Radical Party (SRS), since the number of citizens who support it increased from three to 4.6 percent in one month. Despite its coalition with the United Serbia (JS) and the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS), the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) would not be able to make it to the parliament, even if individual ratings of the three parties were added up, since the SPS-JS-PUPS coalition would win votes of only 4.3 percent of citizens. The Democrats have most support from potential voters in the northern province Vojvodina, while most of those who support the Progressives live in central Serbia. In Belgrade, DS is more popular than their chief rivals, said the agency.
