Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric says the problem of Zastava Arms factory, whose workers are on strike, "is not easy to solve". Speaking on Tuesday, he added that the Serbian government should make a decision on the factory's future functioning. Minister reacts to strike at weapons plant Ciric told the journalists that the factory "has good products, 100 percent of which are intended for export", and explained that this "depends on obtaining export permits". On the other hand, continued the minister, "one should decide whether the factory is over-sized". The workers are protesting in a weapons warehouse, demanding overdue wages and more work. "This is a large factory with over 2,000 workers, which depends solely on export. Our country has no capacities to buy in excess of what is necessary. I believe this is a systemic problem and we need to consider what should be done regarding the factory," Ciric said. He added that he held several meetings with the unions of workers of the Zastava Arms factory, and reiterated that the Ministry of Economy "is helping the factory as much as it can".
