Government with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is “a hypothetical possibility that will never come true”, said DS deputy leader Jelena Trivan. She told daily Danas that the Democratic Party (DS) would in the next elections look for its partners among the parties it already had cooperation with. “DS, SNS have nothing in common” “We have absolutely nothing in common with the Progressives’ policy,” Trivan was quoted as saying. The daily writes that this is “practically the first comment of a DS official on Socialists Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic’s assessments regarding possible DS-SNS government after the next elections”. The DS deputy leader said that constant contacts between the SNS and the DS were either personal or a part of a civilized dialogue in which Serbian President Boris Tadic was consulting everybody, including SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic. “(SNS official) Aleksandar Vucic has confirmed that he has personal contacts with the people from the DS and I do not know why personal contacts would be a politically important event. It is well known that, when it comes to important national issues, Serbian President Boris Tadic consults leaders of political parties, including Tomislav Nikolic,” she stressed. Trivan also noted that this was not the right time to talk about the elections and that they should talk about things that could improve people’s lives. “It’s useless for the parties to deal with themselves and the election issues for four mandates. We will certainly look for our partners in the next elections among the parties that we are cooperating with now,” she pointed out. Trivan said that allegations that many DS officials were unofficially saying that they did not want G17 plus to be their partner anymore after the elections were absurd. “Those are pointless speculations that I don’t want to respond to. The DS does not have children and stepchildren in the coalition that it likes more or less, but political partners instead which have a common program and as long they stick to the program they are all equal and welcome,” the DS deputy leader concluded.
